Solution for Tidy error

Postitus Postitatud: 20.06.10. 13:49:41

Hi, how's it going?

I was searching for a solution to floating 2 buttons to the right without them moving underneath each other (I had to include a width for the float), when I literally stumbled over this: <div class="clearer"><!-- --></div>.

Remember those pesky errors: trimming empty <b> ... </b> which Tidy has always thrown up on reDesign's rounded corners? Well that code snippet above fixes it.

E.g. in footer.html line 4 the code
Kood:
<b class="corner-lt"></b><b class="corner-rt"></b>
if changed to
Kood:
<b class="corner-lt"><!-- --></b><b class="corner-rt"><!-- --></b>
tricks Tidy into thinking there is something real in the <b></b> but it still does not display.

Came here straight away, as I wanted to return something after all your help with CSS in the past. Naerev Thanks!

I know it's not a real error, but if you use reDesign3 all the time as I do, then you want a clean base setup so that FF HTML Validator green OK button shows before you start changing things. Important if you write HTML CSS like I do. Pöörlevad silmad

ps. Have you seen this post? Not the whole thread, just this one post by Kendle, 2nd paragraph.

Too bloody right, Redesign is the first DF theme to NOT make DF look like every other *nuke site out there, I love it ! Naeratus

I'm --> <-- this close to walking away from DF because it just looks dated. Try selling it to a client who's looked at the Drupal home page, looked at the Joomla home page, and then looks at DF's. No contest, DF is pants by comparison. It really, really, really needs a CSS based, clean, modern theme.

I'm glad you like it. Just a suggestion: use the cvs version (though it probably includes more of eyecandy than functional fixes, iirc), which haven't been updated for months anyway. I would release that one, but just haven't found the need.

I haven't introduced the Tidy project to myself yet.

About killing the floats:
I also use method of using overflow: hidden (or auto) for the container, which works like a charm if there aren't any reasons not to use these parameters.

Re the DF thing: I'm not close to walking away from DF the product, as I use DF in my client work, and don't even want to look at the work involved in porting it, but I am getting that way with the DF website!

Are you 2 up for trying to actually address this - as against just knocking them for not doing it? We already know that criticism doesn't effect changes! Naerev There are a few others who might be prepared to put in some graft, based on their own expressed opinions on the same topic.

Madis, Are you OK with DF including reDesign3 - if they'll take it?

Kendle, It'll take more than just a theme change to get DF site to Joomla or Drupal standards. There is a lot of marketing type material there which DF just has never had. How are your writing skills? Silmapilgutus

A prior stumbling block may have been the real impact to Theme Developers of introducing reDesign into the core, but most of those seem to have given up on active participation now anyway.

As I see it, we either make one last serious effort, or just accept that DF is going to cease to exist, or at least move forward, due to lack of participation.

I don't know how Nano, DJ and Phoenix will take it - we may just accelerate our own exits from DF Pöörlevad silmad - but I'm willing to give it a go. I have no ulterior motive - I long ago decided that Pro_News would be better served not being part of the DF Core - but I'm happy to apply my organisational skills to this endeavour if we have a team to sustain it.

And to my original point - the 1-space comment line works almost everywhere that there are empty bolds and spans, but there are a few in the header area which cause real Validation errors if added there.

As someone who hangs on the coat-tails of the real experts I would love to see DragonFly move along with the times. I am very grateful to the likes of the three of you who have put in so much effort to enable me to get my site where it is, but I know, from looking at the likes of Joomla and Drupal that DF is falling behind - it looks so dated!

With mods like Pro_News and themes like reDesign (I'm only on 2 - haven't been brave enough to try 3 yet!) DF has such potential. And if you guys can persuade the DF community that you offer a way forward then I'm with you. It's been such a shame to see sites like DFBounty and BrokenCrust disappear.

I have no plans to actively step into Dragonfly (nor any other cms-s) at this moment (sent you PM, layingback). Of course I would let DF to use reDesign in core, but currently it wouldn't fit perfectly, I'm afraid (though not too much would need to be done... I think).
